About Marine Bioproducts CRC (MBCRC)

The Marine Bioproducts Cooperative Research Centre (MBCRC) is Australia's largest research and development hub, established to drive rapid growth and transformation of sustainable marine bioproducts across Australia’s marine estate.  

Through innovation in advanced manufacturing and high-value bioproduct development, the MBCRC will ensure that maximum value is sustainably derived in Australia from these marine bioresources.  

MBCRC is is serious about building respectful First Nations relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities nationally. Murra Partners has been engaged to recruit this exciting new role, First Nations Engagement Advisor.


About the role

Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of a whole-organisation First Nations Engagement Framework and to develop the capability of MBCRC staff to establish, build and maintain meaningful relationships with First Nations peoples and communities.

This is an exciting time to join MBCRC to be a part of its growth and to contribute to increased First Nations awareness, which will deliver Australian-made marine bioproducts to global markets.


The duties will be:

  • Leading the identification, development, implementation, and delivery of culturally
    appropriate initiatives and framework

  • Providing cultural advice that prioritise and support key strategic opportunities

  • Identifying issues or opportunities for improved project and program delivery

  • Fostering strong working relationships to encourage and increase First Nations
    engagement and awareness

  • Establishing good relationships with First Nations organisations, institutions,
    Communities and Partners

About You


We are looking for a strong leader and project manager that is able to navigate cultural
sensitivity within an evolving and diverse working environment. You will be a high performer
who has exceptional communication skills and a proven track record managing difficult
stakeholders.

We are looking for a charismatic change agent with:

  • Well-developed knowledge of engagement strategies and experience working with First Nations people. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of local Aboriginal history, traditions, organisations and networks. 

  • Strong understanding of Australian First Nations history, protocols and significant people and events. 

  • An ability to develop strategy to deliver on MBCRC objectives and promote positive community outcomes. 

  • A track record of managing stakeholder engagement for projects. 

  • Experience or qualifications in project management, communication or engagement disciplines would be advantageous. 

  • Demonstrated strengths in problem-solving and critical thinking, coupled with sound judgement.
