and have been living in this region for more than 60,000 years. The entirety of East Arnhem Land is
Aboriginal land granted under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976, an important
acknowledgement of the continuing ownership of, and connection to country.
About DEAL and the East Arnhem region
Developing East Arnhem Limited (DEAL) is an independent not-for-profit organisation established to
facilitate investment and economic development opportunities in East Arnhem between Yolŋu
Traditional Owners, local organisations and businesses, governments, and investors.
Situated in Nhulunbuy, DEAL works across the East Arnhem region and is uniquely positioned to drive
development and investment opportunities to smooth the transition to a diversified economy that
grows and strengthens local jobs and communities.
East Arnhem is transitioning from dependence on the long-term Rio Tinto operations on the Gove
Peninsula, due to end by the end of the decade. This transition will leave a unique infrastructure and
economic legacy for East Arnhem that is capable of being leveraged to develop a thriving and
sustainable regional economy which creates local jobs for future generations.

Position Purpose Reporting to the General Manager, Operations, the Yolŋu Business Development Officer will work closely with key stakeholders to lead the development and deployment of a regional model supporting existing and aspiring Yolŋu businesses and entrepreneurs in East Arnhem Land to achieve their socio- economic potential. In collaborative partnership with industry specialists, this role will provide support to the existing DEAL Business Support Clients and will also be responsible for identifying and working with new Yolŋu business clients in any sector to develop their business ideas at any stage of their business lifecycle. The role involves implementing, managing and monitoring an integrated regional model to support business development activities at scale across East Arnhem region. The model is designed to support the business lifecycle from incubation to sustainability. Business support areas span planning and strategy, development, governance, risk and compliance, financial and accounting, administration and logistics, fundraising, leadership and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities • Working with the General Manager, Operations, the role will lead the development and deployment
of a regional model, including integration of existing clients into the new model.
• Establish a baseline and metrics to measure the success of delivery of the Yolŋu Business
Development function.
• Manage delivery of the Business Development & Support function to meet funding and reporting
requirements.
• Monitor and support associated partnership agreements associated with the execution of the
Business Development function
• Identify opportunities for collaborative partnerships that support Yolŋu business development.
• Sharing case studies and Yolŋu business success stories across the region to support learning.

• Monitoring delivery of Service Agreements for existing DEAL Business Support Clients
• Identify a pipeline of potential Business Support Clients and establish service arrangements to help
them develop and establish their business ideas.

Knowledge and Experience Education, Qualifications & Licenses
• Relevant professional experience and/or tertiary qualifications such as Business, Management,
Communications
• Current Australian driver’s license

people of the region, in addition to working with industry, business and the wider community.
• Demonstrated experience working successfully with Aboriginal people.
• Independently driven, self-motivated individual with high personal integrity.
• Strong initiative and attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet
deadlines and work independently as well as part of a team.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to communicate effectively to
a broad range of audiences on often complex topics.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including OneDrive and SharePoint systems.
• Comfortable working in a remote town on Aboriginal land
